“Taking Learning Trajectories to Scale in a Digital Learning System for Middle School Math”

This talk reports on the design and implementation of Math-Mapper6-8, a digital learning system hosting a learning map organized around nine big ideas, learning clusters and constructs.  Underlying each construct is a learning trajectory (LT) and its associated CCSS-M standards. It is accompanied by a diagnostic assessment system for use within classroom instruction showing progress along the LTs.  The talk will focus on applying the validation framework to ratio reasoning and process of continuous validation, stressing the critical role of the interdisciplinary collaboration between learning scientists and psychometricians.

Second Spring Begles March 30th

We are going to have our second Begles Potluck this semester on March 30th from 5:30-8pm at Dr. Jaime Diamond’s home ( 220 Spalding Cir. Athens, GA 30605).

First Begles Jan 26 Spring 2018

Last Begles of Year 2017

Our last Begles POTLUCK of 2017 fall semester is December 1st from 5:30-8pm at Dr. Amy Ellis’s home (150 Yonah Avenue, Athens, GA, 30601). Please let us know if you will attend and, like always, bring friends, family, and significant others. We hope to see you there! Though bringing a dish is not required to attend, if you wouldn’t mind bringing something, that would be great! Also, bring a few beverages to share (alcoholic or non-alcoholic) and let’s make the beverages potluck as well!

Colloquium Announcement: Dr. Sarah Lubienski

We are excited to announce that Dr. Sarah Lubienski from Indiana University will be visiting next week and giving a colloquium!

When: Wednesday, November 15th 3:15pm
Where: Aderhold Room 229
What:  “Mathematics Instruction, Achievement and Equity in the U.S.: What Can (and Can’t) National Data Tell Us About Recent Trends?”.

Dr. Sarah Lubienski is a professor of mathematics education at Indiana University. Her research focuses on diverse students’ mathematics outcomes and the policies and practices that shape those outcomes. Dr. Lubienski is co-Chair of the Research in Mathematics Education SIG of AERA as well as a member of the AERA Grants Governing Board. Dr. Lubienski has served as director of several AERA Institutes on Statistical Analysis for Education Policy. Her work has been funded by the Institute of Education Sciences, the National Center of Education Statistics, the National Science Foundation and the Fulbright Program. She recently served as Associate and then Interim Dean of the University of Illinois Graduate College before moving to Indiana University in Bloomington.
